UNNECESSARY PRAIZ

“While he was in Bethany,reclining at the table in the home of a man known as Simon the Leper, a woman came with an alabaster jar of very expensive perfume, made of pure nard. She broke the jar and poured the perfume on his head.Some of those present were saying indignantly to one another, “Why this waste of perfume? It could have been sold for more than a year’s wages and the money given to the poor.” And they rebuked her harshly.” (Mark 14:3-5)

Ever noticed the devil’s plant in just about every church service? I call them the praise paparazzi! No? That’s understandable! You can’t always tell from they way they look.They’ve been trained to blend in just like the woodwork!

But here are just a few clues to help recognize them. First, they never smile in church, because being holy means looking ‘deep’. They appear to be a bit too sophisticated and far more educated then anyone else in the congregation and act as if coming to church is just another form of social networking! 

They come expecting a progressively philosophically indoctrinated and adulterated, diluted gospel-lite that’s more condusively-conformable to the world at large, as they consider themselves to  be more spiritually enlightened then most of us common folk.
 
Usually,you find them highly critical of the ol-skool traditional preachers who fail to embrace and/or adapt to new methodologies to better relate to the 21st Century urban-contemporary culture and stay away from tredding out that old corn—it’s too confrontational and no longer culturally acceptable!

They definitely don’t like the ol’ skool hymns… “why ‘you all’ sing those ol’ congregational songs that none of us know; most of them are biblically incorrect, anyhow!”

Oh, can’t forget this one.They’re stingy! They’ll act like they’re so concerned about helping the poor, but the truth is they’re fearful and confused; because with all that they have, they still don’t have the joy, peace and hope that you have just dwelling in the Presence of Jesus Alone! 

Check for this, when you see them squirming and looking back and forth from their watch to their program…that’s your clue preacha… ‘It’s time for the benediction!’
 
Finally, they’re the first ones to critique your praise. After all, ‘it don’t take all that!’ You see them giving you that look that says, ‘PLEASE…why don’t you just sit down; it ain’t that serious.’

Oh well! Gotta love ’em! If they only had a clue that praise is the magnet that draws God’s Favor to us, they’d be praising HIM too!

“One thing have I desired of the Lord, that will I seek after; that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the Lord, and to enquire in his temple. For in the time of trouble he shall hide me in his pavilion: in the secret of his tabernacle shall he hide me; he shall set me up upon a rock.” Psalm 27:4-5

 

Aaawwwww…Fantasy! Believe it or not, that’s where many escape to when the painful realities of life become much more than a person can bear. Perhaps, this might explain why that 1965 Classic American Sitcom “I Dream of Genie” (staring Barbara Eden and Larry Hagman) drew such a faithful following!

Week after week families gathered around their b/w TV’s anxiously gasping for any momentary retreat from the real-time burdens facing our nation. I mean who wouldn’t jump at the opportunity to have anything their heart desired suddenly appear simply by swiping a lamp, right?  Yep, those were the good ol’ days, huh?

History records President Lyndon B. Johnson struggling to lead the nation through a multiplicity of vexing controversial challenges and at the same time maintain some semblance of the homeland security that many cleaved to so dearly.

Remember, The First Combat Boots landing in Viet Nam and the Dominican Republic, the arrest of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King along with 2,600 others in Selma Alabama for demonstrating against voter-registration rules. Malcom X was shot to death in a Harlem rally, while the newly recognized Afro-Americans were rioting in Watts and others were rudely awakened to the undeniable existence of racism in The Land of the Free? Yep! Yep! #thoseweredadays!

The point is, despite the torrid winds of time, we survived!

Truthfully, as long as we live and breathe on this earth, there will be storms of adversity. In today’s scripture text, the Psalmist offers a brilliant ray of confident hope, strength and encouragement to those who yet contend for the faith found only in an intimate personal relationship with The God of all flesh.

Having been victimized by jealously, hatred and malicious rejection from those closes to him on numerous occasions, David sticks out in history as a true, honest, God-revealing companion to the desperate and down casts. A recap of God’s servant’s life depicts one who repeatedly finds himself besieged by fear, doubt, betrayal, death and isolation from human kindness. Yet in the midst of chaos, terror and tragedy, The Shepherd boy/King, David discovers the Source of true solace under the watchful care of His Sovereign Lord!

Beloved, we’re living in a day in time where it’s easy to get caught up in the daily grind of hussle and bustle, striving for the world’s standards of successful accomplishments and accommodations! However,  in spite of those poignant pathetic prophetic voices declaring peace and prosperity, sometimes we are left trembling and shaken by the inscrutable ungodliness of the systems of this world!

Nevertheless, if we keep our eyes pointed Heavenward, we too can be blessed, revitalized and restored by that Peace that passes all understanding, swept over by the unspeakable joy and resting assured in the Presence of the One Savior and Lord that David delighted in, Jesus Christ!  THE PERFECT ANSWER TO THE PERFECT STORM!

Nevertheless the foundation of God standeth sure, having this seal, The Lord knoweth them that are his. And, let every one that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity. 2 Timothy 2:19 
 

If the foundations be destroyed, what can the righteous do? Psalm 11:3 

 

God has given to those who have placed their personal trust in The Blood of Jesus for the saving of their souls, exceedingly great and precious promises!  Those of us who never ever believed that they could be invited to partake of so GREAT A SALVATION,  have latched on to this Blessed Hope as if our very lives depended upon it–and it does!  While rejoicing is indeed in order, it’s also important that we not indulge in THE WORD like it’s a smorgasbord… ‘eat’ the text we like and discard those that we don’t!
 
According to The Holy Writ, certain Promises are specifically-reserved for those who are walking daily in Christ with GOD!  “Can two walk together, except they be agreed?” (Amos 3:3) 

God recognizes those who have been called to Him by their willingness to submit to His Will and whosoever chooses to obey His Word, receive The Promises!

May I submit for your consideration that everybody that’s in the church building ain’t necessarily in Christ?  #OHNOSHEDIDN’T…OHYESSHEDID!

Some people can be religious (or as the Millennials say, SPIRITUAL) but not in an intimate relationship with The Lord Jesus Christ! Many may believe that the Bible is the Word of God, yet they don’t believe that it’s talking to them! Others may believe that God has power, however don’t essentially believe that God has the Power to change their lives!

Unfortunately, all of the blame is not on the people but must be shared by those in leadership in churches that have watered-down the Living Word in order to fill the pews, appease the congregation and appear more palatable to the world!  #ijs…Seriously?

I know, with so many opinions being perpetuated into our spirits from various medias, it’s becoming increasingly difficult to sift thru the fake news in an effort to decipher Truth from the fictitious, fabricated to manipulate the unsuspecting for personal gain! Hence, it behooves the true seekers to let every man be a liar and GOD BE THE TRUTH!

Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. 2 Timothy 2:15

Seasons change, opinions change, customs change, methods change BUT God’s Message will never change!

The Bible, aka The Eternal Word of God, plainly declares and decrees — If the foundations be destroyed, what can the righteous do?

While the New Millennium church is reaching forward and pressing on to get wherever we’re going, please don’t lose Jesus!  Remember, it doesn’t matter how high we go in this life, we’ll never get above GOD. #Didjaheardat?

For He knows them that are His!  JUS KEEP’N IT 100!

“Your kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, And Your dominion endures throughout all generations. The Lord upholds all who fall, And raises up all who are bowed down.” Psalm 145:13-14

Granted there is a certain degree of comforting consolation from King David’s lamenting songs, “For his anger endureth but a moment; in his favour is life: weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning.” (Psalm 30:5),  unfortunately,  I dare say, there are some times when these words shriek hallow leaving our battle-wearied hearts to sigh “OH WHAT A NIGHT!”

Even though all the circumstantial evidence blaring in our faces might cause us to question internally; “God where are you? Don’t you see? Do you not understand; do you care?” , as born-again-baptised-believers, we must learn to walk by faith–not sight and certainly not our fickle feelings!  The whole point of having our Salvation Benefits Package is that despite of what it looks like in the natural, we yet have a HOPE that’s beyond this world. OUR GOD LIVES! OUR GOD Sees! OUR GOD Knows! OUR GOD Cares! #didjaheardat?

My Precious saints, it ‘s TRUE! Nevertheless, God does allow tests and trials to come into our lives. Not to tempt us to turn from HIM, but to train us to trust HIM! The Ol’ skool Mothers used to say “if you never had a problem, how would you know GOD COULD solve them?” While I’m totally convinced that The Sovereign God could’ve gotten HIS Purpose fulfilled without allowing me to go thru some of those desperate Baca places, the operative word is “thru”! In other words, this thing didn’t come to stay–it too shall pass!

All of our problems have a pre-designated expiration date—BUT GOD DOESN’T! THE I AM IS ETERNAL!

“For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.” Romans 8:18

While you’re meandering through your wilderness, pick up a few stones; as a personal memento when you get on the other side of it! Not just to remind yourself of what GOD can do; but to empower your witness to that sojourner you meet on their way in to where you’ve come out!

“HOLD TO GOD’S UNCHANGING HANDS! HE REIGNS FOREVER!”

“But in the last days it shall come to pass, that the mountain of the house of theLord shall be established in the top of the mountains, and it shall be exalted above the hills; and people shall flow unto it. And many nations shall come, and say, Come, and let us go up to the mountain of the Lord, and to the house of the God of Jacob; and he will teach us of his ways, and we will walk in his paths: for the law shall go forth of Zion, and the word of the Lord from Jerusalem. And he shall judge among many people, and rebuke strong nations afar off; and they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruninghooks: nation shall not lift up a sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any more. But they shall sit every man under his vine and under his fig tree; and none shall make them afraid: for the mouth of the Lord of hosts hath spoken it. For all people will walk every one in the name of his god, and we will walk in the name of the Lord our God for ever and ever.” Micah 4:1-4

Sometimes, looking at the world around us, it’s quite possible to believe that there’s no one living for God? While there is much evidence to support this, especially among those who religiously attend church services on Sunday mornings, but yet apparently feel as though church has no relevant life-altering significance that testifies to God’s Reality in their Monday-Saturday lifestyle. Unfortunately, God’s Word adamantly firmly disagrees with this 21st Century Pop Culture Theology.

Looking back throughout history, we find that this type of thinking didn’t just crop-up in the last centuries, but can be traced back throughout the scriptures, “In those day there was no king in Israel: every man did that which was right in his own eyes.” Judges 21:25.

Obviously, it’s innately human to resist any outside source or supreme authority that restricts us from doing anything that pleases the desires of our selfish-sin-lusting flesh. Given the diversity of religious belief systems accessible to us today, it’s not difficult to find somebody (for the right price) preaching exactly what suits your particular fancy and soothes your conscience from unrequited burden of sin’s shame and guilt, regardless of how it contradicts The Holy Bible.

“For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.” 2 Timothy 4:3-4

While living life so haphazardly may seem to have it’s own conveniences and advantages, it’s only temporary and ultimately will be proven absolutely foolish. Belief it or not, any attempt to deny God’s existence is imminently disastrous!

The Bible warns repeatedly of this idolatry! Yet, there is a strange propensity towards self-deception, that convinces so many ‘if there is a God, then how could he punish the very same creation that He claims to have such intense love for?’

That’s simple, because He is Holy and Just! Therefore, to withhold punishment for all unrighteousness would be totally against His Righteous Character! Nevertheless, God takes no pleasure in dispensing His Wrath upon His Beloved that’s why He sends His Word to warn us of the dire consequences of consistently living in rebellion against His teachings.

“For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” Romans 6:23

To trust in ones own opinions, expectations and assumptions of what God requires, only leads us into deeper depths of depravity and immorality that drives us further away from from The Redeeming Grace of Our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. (Ref. Proverbs 3:5-7)

However, by trusting solely upon The Faithful Witness, we embrace The Love, Hope, Peace, Joy and Favor of The Holy Father’s Presence not just in the land of the living, but eternally in the world to come!

BELOVED, GOD HAS A PLAN FOR YOUR LIFE! BUT IT’S STILL YOUR CHOICE! TRUST IT AND LIVE IT… THE GOD HONORED LIFE!

“But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth” (Acts 1:8)

Who is the most important person in the earth today? WOW! Talk about a brow-raising provocative attention getting disruption! I suppose the more intellectual individual would promptly interject, “That depends! It’s all relative to one’s personal proclivity and objectivity! ”

An avid sports enthusiast may call out his favorite team’s star performer, based on his/her stats. While the more musically inclined person, might consider that artistic-talented-top-of-the –chart entertainer. Yet again, to that bright-eyed-looking-just-like-your-Daddy 7-yr. old son could profoundly-energetically proclaim his-giant-of-a-man progenitor

However, as a Bible-Living-Trusting-Believer I entreat you to consider The Triune God, in the Person of Holy Spirit, the MVP in the earth heads down and hands up! Now ask me why? Because, Jesus said so!

“I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you. Yet a little while, and the world seeth me no more; but ye see me: because I live, ye shall live also. At that day ye shall know that I am in my Father, and ye in me, and I in you.” (John 14:18-20) Didjaheardat?

Jesus completely fulfilled The Father’s Redemptive Plan, by the shedding of His Atoning Blood restoring the relationship so abruptly breached by Adam’s disobedience (Ref. Hebrews 9:22) opening up the way for anyone who will accept His Saving Grace to live eternally in Heaven!  However, it was the Fulfillment of The Promise, on The Day of Pentecost, when Holy Spirit showed up in the Upper-Room, filling all 120 waiting souls (with the evidence of speaking in unknown tongues) that subsequently empowers us to live triumphantly overcoming in this present world!

“And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting. And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.” (Acts 2:1-4)

So what’s so controversial? How can we live ‘HOLY’ without the Indwelling Power of Holy Spirit? How can we walk in The Spirit, be lead by The Spirit, be effective witnesses to a lost death reigning world without the Life-Giving Light illuminating through these vessels of clay? (Ref. 7:18)

“He said unto them, Have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed? And they said unto him, We have not so much as heard whether there be any Holy Ghost.” (Acts 19:2)

Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord Acts 3:19

I am straight Holiness/Pentecostal todabone; jus ask anybody who knows me in church! I mean, I’ll shout you down in a heartbeat! But guess what? The devil ain’t stud’n you getting your praise on shoutin’ and dancin’, flip’n over pews, in the church house, as long as you don’t change! That’s right, I’m talking about repentance! Don’t touch dat button!

I know repentance still carries a negative connotation, generally provoking feelings of fear and condemnation. I totally get! However, what we need to realize is that none of us  have the power or responsibility to make a person repent by threatening them that they’re going to Hell!  BUT!!!! IF  you let them know how good The Lord is and what He’s ALREADY done for US to make us right with God, there a good chance that they’ll want to know Him for themselves!

Before the days of name it and claim it, and blab it and grab it, when a true prophet spoke, the only thing he promised was the WORD OF GOD! Really, check your Bible? John the Baptist preached the same message every day, “prepare ye the way, repent and be baptized, for the Lord is at hand”. When The Apostle Peter left the upper room, filled with the Holy Ghost, he came preaching the same message, “repent”. Yall ain’t liking me, huh?

Some folk still believe repentance means going to the altar, echoing a confession and shaking the pastor’s hand. But my beloved, genuine repentance is a matter of the heart and I don’t mean just feeling sorry. If you really want to experience authentic fellowship with Jesus, you have to sanctify yourself through repenting from your heart.

2 Corinthians 7:10 explains, when a person truly repents, they’ll admit that they’re sincerely sorry for rebelling against God and living a sinful life; make a conscious commitment to change the way they live, turn their back AWAY FROM the devil, and TURN 2 JESUS!

One of the best parts of repentance is taking back the personal power that we’ve allowed Satan to rule over our lives! Godly sorrow will make you stare the devil down and tell him in no uncertain terms, “No thank you, I don’t want to live like this anymore, it’s over! I DON’T BELONG 2 U, I BELONG TO JESUS! MY PAST IS COVERED IN THE BLOOD AND MY NEW LIFE IS NONE OF YOUR BUSINESS! NOW , GET OUTTA MY FACE OR I’M GONNA CALL MY DADDY!

Beloved, don’t allow another moment of doubt, unbelief or fear cause you to forfeit the blessings that God has prepared for us. (Ref. Jeremiah 29:11) The Bible says, the day you hear His Voice calling–just come! Didjaheardat? Can you hear HIM now?

Somebody quick, please tell the devil, “ I CHANGED MY MIND!”

“I will greatly rejoice in the Lord, my soul shall be joyful in my God; for he hath clothed me with the garments of salvation, he hath covered me with the robe of righteousness, as a bridegroom decketh himself with ornaments, and as a bride adorneth herself with her jewels. For as the earth bringeth forth her bud, and as the garden causeth the things that are sown in it to spring forth; so the Lord God will cause righteousness and praise to spring forth before all the nations.” Isaiah 61:10-11

 

Living on the East Coast,  allows us the opportunity to enjoy the experience of watching with sheer delight as the seasons transition displaying God awesomeness! BUT! Don’tchajusluv SPRING? 

WOW! Ever looked at it like this? The whole earth is waking up from a long cold winter’s night and suddenly exploding under the light of a brand new day, huh? Seems like everywhere you turn, flowers are bursting up with blossoms filling the air with the sweet frangrance of fresh!

The Light of HOPE springs ALIVE dismissing the dismal depths of past failures, disappointments and desolations, arousing passion, promises and potential. Feeldat? Aaaaahhhhh! Oh Yeah, LOVE is in the air!

Didjaheardat?  Even the birds are tweeting songs of thanksgiving and praise to the Faithfulness of their Benefactor’s sustaining Grace. Listen! The streets and playgrounds are filled with children’s lalughter, dancing beneath the afternoon showers as the joy revives the strength of many who have been wearied and burdened by  far too many lengthy tear-filled restless nights!

That’s simplly awemazing, huh? I mean, inspite of all that gossip, sibling bickering and too much unsolicited advice, once again families are gathered round banquet-sized tables, anxiously anticipating the first bite! That’s if PopPop ever gets finished boasting about his culinary skills and brings the BBQ chicken, ribs and those famous ever-so-slightly burned hot dogs and burgers to the table and puts them along side Aunt Bessie’s baked beans and Big Mama’s infamous potato salad!

OMG! Now where dem older kids, think they slippin off to? Funny how they think us old folk were born old! Ha! Ha! ‘Can somebody go tell them guys, if they keep walking back to the trucks, they ain’t gonna get no pig feet!’

‘Can you believe that Uncle D thinks he’s getting away with slipping all those extra cookies, candy and chips to dem kids (as if anyone could miss it—with all that noise behind the side of the house)!’

‘Can you tell Pastor to come bless the food, please?’

Gotta Luv It! NOW THAT’S LIFE—MORE ABUNDANT AND FILLED WITH GLORRAAA! THAT’S THE HANDIWORK OF THE MASTER’S BOUQUET! #um..um…umm! Can hardly wait, huh?

A LIVING TESTIMONY

“These things command and teach. Let no man despise thy youth; but be thou an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity.” 1 Timothy 4:11-12

Have you heard that old cliché, “ACTIONS SPEAK LOUDER THAN WORDS”? Well guess what, according to today’s scripture text, The Bible said it first! Seriously! That kinda sheds a whole new light on parenting, huh? Perhaps, this might even explain the outbreak of blatant rebelliousness so prevalent amongst of our youth.

Studies have concluded that children whose parents eat nutritious foods and exercise daily also grow up to become adults who eat right and exercise daily. Uuummm! Unfortunately, this trending does not necessarily carry over into our spiritual lives. Hence, often times there’s a discerning disconnect between our religious persuasions and our real-life saunter.

While the scriptures enumerates the importance and the responsibility that we, who have confessed our faith in the Saving Grace of Jesus Christ and accepted the Gift of His Righteousness, have to represent Our Master to a lost and dying world! However, sometimes we relegate this obligation to mean only ‘card-holding’ church delegates. Now who do you think started that lie?

The Bible says in Acts 1:8, Jesus himself testifies, “But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.”

Didjaheardat? Who shall be witnesses? Sounded like it says it’s the believers! Oh Yeah! Those who have God living in them will be called to the witness stand to testify to the Living Truth of The Gospel!

Have you heard that other one, (most often attributed to St. Francis Assisi) “Preach the Gospel Always, and if necessary use words”?

Apparently, we’ve been charged to spread The Good News everywhere we go. No, that doesn’t mean that the saints are to act like an elite force of bible-tote’n secret service agents, armed and ready to attack unsuspecting unbelievers, beating them over the head with your scripture quoting. But rather, it tells us that our very lifestyle should exemplify Christ-likeness. In other words, we’re commanded to walk circumspectly! (Ref. Ephesians 5:15-16) Our demeanor, our character, integrity, our love, kindness and our patience should blasts “This is a Child of The Most High God”!

Beloved, “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.” Matthew 5:16

Didjahear the one, “God is Real! The Gospel is True and Salvation is Still Available!”? If not, don’t doubt the veracity of The Message because of its erroneous misrepresentation! A LIVING TESTIMONY!

Somehow, we remember that gut-wrenching pain (that you were utterly convinced was terminal) and the high that would get higher and the groove getsgroovyur; the music never stopped; the laughter would become heartier and the flood of tears would never subside; the mornings came too soon and the nights were eternal; puppy love would grow into a couple, a family and divorce and you’d just…and recess lasts for a lifetime…and then! IT’S TODAY and you’re still alive! #wannacheckurpulse?

Whatever happened, good, bad, ugly and indifferent; you survived it all!

Release the coulda’s , woulda’s, shoulda’s! Smile triumphantly over conquests and the sweetness of successes! Sigh sheepishly over the guilts and regrets—then thank GOD for all the second chances!
