SACRED TRUST!

SELAH Daily Devotions!

 

Because he hath set his love upon me, therefore will I deliver him: I will set him on high, because he hath known my name. He shall call upon me, and I will answer him: I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him, and honour him. Psalm 91:14-15

Ever heard, (perhaps you’ve said it yourself) “I’ll forgive you, but I won’t forget!”? What I think the person’s really saying is, “To err is human, but trust is Divine”!

One of the most catastrophic casualties of any broken relationship is trust!

Personally, I believe that’s why God hates sin. Given the uncertainty of the expansive lapse of time and the incomprehensible impact of the devastationing consequences of their high-treason against El Elyon, any attempt to describe the weight  and wealth of this trusting intimacy and fellowship that Adam and Eve enjoyed with The Creator as unimaginable, would at best only be a severe under-estimation! #IJS

Nevertheless, The Bible does reveal sporadic glimpses into the pure delight of The Heavenly Father’s Heart strolling through The Garden in the cool of the day, the intimate communion with the most precious of creation, sharing secret Eternal Wisdom, proudly affirming and re-affirming man’s authority and dominion over all living creatures and expressing Loving-Providential Care towards that which was created in His Own Image!

Despite the palatable convenience and more advantageous point of view for man to deflate the effect of our transgressions, both in Heaven and in the earth, from God’s perspective sin corrupts! Therefore it demands separation from Holy. Hence, sin brutally interrupts the intimacy that God purposed between God-Self and humanity when He formed us! Thereby emphatically grieving the Holy Spirit of God! Yet, we have the audacity to describe our unrighteous infractions as ‘my little issue’, ‘a slip up’ or ‘to miss the mark’! WOW!

Fortunately for us, God’s love would not be denied! Today’s scriptures tells us that knowing the innate frailty and the proclivity of human flesh to fall hopelessly into the temptations of sin’s lure, The God of Compassion and All Comfort , determined to restore the sacred communion (trust) with His Family, sacrificed His Only Begotten Son, the 2nd Adam, to repair the breach ruptured by our rebellious nature. (Ref. John 3:16)

Even more awesome, is the reality that we, (the offender), have only to accept this free offer (made by the Offended), Salvation by Grace, by confessing a faithful-heart-filled prayer of repentance (Godly sorrow) and professing a solemn commitment to live each day of the rest of our lives wholly unto The Lord and Savior Jesus Christ! 

“For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast. Ephesians 2:8-9

WOW! #didjaheardat? NOW THAT’S AWEMAAZZIN! 2 KNOW GOD IS 2 TRUST HIS LOVE! SACRED, huh?

SELAH Daily Devotions!

“When thou passest through the waters, I will be with thee; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee: when thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned; neither shall the flame kindle upon thee. For I am the Lord thy God, the Holy One of Israel, thy Saviour…Fear not: for I am with thee” Isaiah 43:2-3, 5

Over the past several years, there have been many versions of the infamous prose, Foot Prints inThe Sand. The original poem was written by Mary Stevens in 1939. Yet, these verses continue to touch our hearts on so many different levels, causing us to wholeheartedly concur with Ms. Stevens reflections with a resounding …Ugotdatright!

In retrospect, it seemed as if the worst of times were in fact the times I felt the most alone!

Isolation! It’s one of the enemy’s favorite weapons to use against God’s children. It doesn’t matter whether you’re sitting quietly by yourself or amidst a large gathering of people, we can still be intimidated by a demonic spirit called ‘isolation’.

Satan, a notoriusly skillful, subtle, ingenious, crafty and deceitful enemy,  waits patiently seeking to ensnare those who are either unaware of or perhaps have become insensitive to his tactics. At the most opportune time, he strikes swiftly invading our minds and emotions with carefully selected thoughts, feelings and progressive suggestions designed to persuade us that “no one cares about me; no one really understands what I’m going through, no one really understands me; shucks… I might as well stay by myself.”

But! Remember, the devil is still a liar! The devil knows quite well, that since you’ve invited Christ Jesus into your life, you are never by yourself; however that doesn’t keep him from working overtime to convince you that even if that’s true, it doesn’t mean it’s true for you!

One of many benefits of our Heritage Plan of The Most High God, is direct-access to Divine Power to shift the atmospheric conditions of our environment. It’s called prayer! So even if our circumstances  seem to appear as if God has abandoned you—just when you need Him the most—we have an inner witness, Holy Spirit, to assure us that if we would simply call on Jesus, He shows up right where we need Him to be, under-girding us with His Comforting Presence, Boundless Mercy and Infinite Strength and Power!

This is the confidence that every believer has in The Covenant Keeping God.

Faced with intimidating threats, fiery darts of persecution or apparently overwhelming furnaces of afflictions? Remember, you can relax, rest upon His Reliable Arms, fully assured that He is well able to carry us through every situation.

As you yield your hearts and entrust  your circumstances to Him, you have this assurance; even at our weakest, we are always connected to The Very Present Help and Everlasting Hope—Jesus!

“TRUST ME, I’M HERE! I GOTCHA, ALWAYS! “ #didjaheardat? CARRIED!

“Let us labour therefore to enter into that rest, lest any man fall after the same example of unbelief” (Heb. 4:11)

 

There is a certain ‘place’ that every human, believer or unbeliever, inevitably seeks  to inhabit. However, you can’t locate in on Map Quest, Google or GPS. Amazingly, given all of the sophisticated technological advancement of our 2lst Century, it can’t be seen by telescope, satellite or heard by electronic ultra sonic sound systems. You can’t travel there walking, driving or riding in a bus, train, plane, rocket, cruise liner, submarine or battle ship!

Nevertheless, many a lifetime is spent meandering through days and nights pursuing it! Unfortunately, few ever get there. Some get closer than others, yet they’re left disappointed. For reasons unbeknownst to them, before they’re able to get a firm grasp, some way and some how, ‘it’ escapes to just beyond reach. Many have sought for it at the pinnacle of corporate, academia or entertainment world. Only to ascertain that despite the success, accolades, notoriety, wealth and privileges of the elite, there yet remains this insatiable unfulfilled inner-quest!

Where is this place that continues to evade so many a desperately wandering soul?

In case you haven’t figured it out, it’s called ‘REST’! And the reason so many fail to reach it, is because it is not a place but a person; and His Name is JESUS!

According to these Scriptures: “And to whom sware he that they should not enter into his rest, but to them that believed not?” (Heb. 3:18)

“Seeing therefore it remaineth that some must enter therein, and they to whom it was first preached entered not in because of unbelief” (Heb. 4:6)

Apparently, that which is impossible to man is always possible to God! (Ref. Matthew 19:26)

Didjaheardat? Amazingly, the very moment anyone places their ABSOLUTE trust in The Saving Grace of The Lord Jesus Christ, they have finally arrived, safe and sound, at their Destination—REST!

So do what you can. Pray about anything; trust God for everything and LEAVE THE REST TO JESUS! #GOTIT?? Aaawwwwmmmaaaazzzzzin!

SELAH Daily Devotions!

 

Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.  Hebrew 11:1

 

Contrary to contemporary Millennium thinking, faith is not a new theological doctrine. Biblical faith doesn’t have to be complicated. Genuine Faith is simply a patient confident trust in the integrity and power of our Loving and Caring Heavenly Father. Didjaheardat?

Faith is the currency of exchange in the Kingdom of God! The Bible emphatically states that we can’t even approach The Creator of Heaven and earth, The True and Living God without first believing, not only that He exists, but that HE is WHO HE SAYS HE IS!  Furthermore, we can’t expect to get anything from God unless we believe that HE IS ABLE TO DO EVERYTHING HE SAYS HE WILL DO! #SERIOUSLY!

Hebrews 11:1 says, “NOW” faith, not “THEN” faith! The Eternal God reigns from Everlasting to Everlasting; and because JESUS is the same, yesterday, today and forever, we can expect Him to be the same God NOW that He’s always been! (Ref. Hebrews 13:8)

Beloved, words are powerful containers! Hence, as long as you continue to call those things that are, then you will continue to get jus whachasay! However, if you want to see  that situation change for the better, then start calling it whacha want! Jesus did! #ijs (Ref. Romans 4:17) 

Remember how them Ol’ Church Mothers used to encourage themselves while waiting on their Lord by singing faith songs like “GOD Specializes” and “I know the Lord Will Make a Way, Somehow”. Their hope, just like ours, was not in what we can see now, but what we can expect God to do. Faith says “I don’t know when and I don’t know how, but I just believe that God is already working on my situation; turning everything around to work in my favor and for His Greatest Glorrraaa!   (Ref. Romans8:28)

TRUST2KNO, Faith is not limited by our natural eyes…but says, “I don’t have to see it to believe it!  AMEN 3X…IT IS SO! FAITH TALKS!

“While he was in Bethany,reclining at the table in the home of a man known as Simon the Leper, a woman came with an alabaster jar of very expensive perfume, made of pure nard. She broke the jar and poured the perfume on his head.Some of those present were saying indignantly to one another, “Why this waste of perfume? It could have been sold for more than a year’s wages and the money given to the poor.” And they rebuked her harshly.” (Mark 14:3-5)

Ever noticed the devil’s plant in just about every church service? I call them the praise paparazzi! No? That’s understandable! You can’t always tell from they way they look.They’ve been trained to blend in just like the woodwork!

But here are just a few clues to help recognize them. First, they never smile in church, because being holy means looking ‘deep’. They appear to be a bit too sophisticated and far more educated then anyone else in the congregation and act as if coming to church is just another form of social networking! 

They come expecting a progressively philosophically indoctrinated and adulterated, diluted gospel-lite that’s more condusively-conformable to the world at large, as they consider themselves to  be more spiritually enlightened then most of us common folk.
 
Usually,you find them highly critical of the ol-skool traditional preachers who fail to embrace and/or adapt to new methodologies to better relate to the 21st Century urban-contemporary culture and stay away from tredding out that old corn—it’s too confrontational and no longer culturally acceptable!

They definitely don’t like the ol’ skool hymns… “why ‘you all’ sing those ol’ congregational songs that none of us know; most of them are biblically incorrect, anyhow!”

Oh, can’t forget this one.They’re stingy! They’ll act like they’re so concerned about helping the poor, but the truth is they’re fearful and confused; because with all that they have, they still don’t have the joy, peace and hope that you have just dwelling in the Presence of Jesus Alone! 

Check for this, when you see them squirming and looking back and forth from their watch to their program…that’s your clue preacha… ‘It’s time for the benediction!’
 
Finally, they’re the first ones to critique your praise. After all, ‘it don’t take all that!’ You see them giving you that look that says, ‘PLEASE…why don’t you just sit down; it ain’t that serious.’

Oh well! Gotta love ’em! If they only had a clue that praise is the magnet that draws God’s Favor to us, they’d be praising HIM too!
 
IF THEY ONLY KNEW THE STORY BEHIND YOUR PRAISE,THEY’D KNOW…IT’S OH SO NECESSARY!

“One thing have I desired of the Lord, that will I seek after; that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the Lord, and to enquire in his temple. For in the time of trouble he shall hide me in his pavilion: in the secret of his tabernacle shall he hide me; he shall set me up upon a rock.” Psalm 27:4-5

 

Aaawwwww…Fantasy! Believe it or not, that’s where many escape to when the painful realities of life become much more than a person can bear. Perhaps, this might explain why that 1965 Classic American Sitcom “I Dream of Genie” (staring Barbara Eden and Larry Hagman) drew such a faithful following!

Week after week families gathered around their b/w TV’s anxiously gasping for any momentary retreat from the real-time burdens facing our nation. I mean who wouldn’t jump at the opportunity to have anything their heart desired suddenly appear simply by swiping a lamp, right?  Yep, those were the good ol’ days, huh?

History records President Lyndon B. Johnson struggling to lead the nation through a multiplicity of vexing controversial challenges and at the same time maintain some semblance of the homeland security that many cleaved to so dearly.

Remember, The First Combat Boots landing in Viet Nam and the Dominican Republic, the arrest of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King along with 2,600 others in Selma Alabama for demonstrating against voter-registration rules. Malcom X was shot to death in a Harlem rally, while the newly recognized Afro-Americans were rioting in Watts and others were rudely awakened to the undeniable existence of racism in The Land of the Free? Yep! Yep! #thoseweredadays!

The point is, despite the torrid winds of time, we survived!

Truthfully, as long as we live and breathe on this earth, there will be storms of adversity. In today’s scripture text, the Psalmist offers a brilliant ray of confident hope, strength and encouragement to those who yet contend for the faith found only in an intimate personal relationship with The God of all flesh.

Having been victimized by jealously, hatred and malicious rejection from those closes to him on numerous occasions, David sticks out in history as a true, honest, God-revealing companion to the desperate and down casts. A recap of God’s servant’s life depicts one who repeatedly finds himself besieged by fear, doubt, betrayal, death and isolation from human kindness. Yet in the midst of chaos, terror and tragedy, The Shepherd boy/King, David discovers the Source of true solace under the watchful care of His Sovereign Lord!

Beloved, we’re living in a day in time where it’s easy to get caught up in the daily grind of hussle and bustle, striving for the world’s standards of successful accomplishments and accommodations! However,  in spite of those poignant pathetic prophetic voices declaring peace and prosperity, sometimes we are left trembling and shaken by the inscrutable ungodliness of the systems of this world!

Nevertheless, if we keep our eyes pointed Heavenward, we too can be blessed, revitalized and restored by that Peace that passes all understanding, swept over by the unspeakable joy and resting assured in the Presence of the One Savior and Lord that David delighted in, Jesus Christ!  THE PERFECT ANSWER TO THE PERFECT STORM!

SELAH Daily Devotions!

 

Nevertheless the foundation of God standeth sure, having this seal, The Lord knoweth them that are his. And, let every one that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity. 2 Timothy 2:19 
 

If the foundations be destroyed, what can the righteous do? Psalm 11:3 

 

God has given to those who have placed their personal trust in The Blood of Jesus for the saving of their souls, exceedingly great and precious promises!  Those of us who never ever believed that they could be invited to partake of so GREAT A SALVATION,  have latched on to this Blessed Hope as if our very lives depended upon it–and it does!  While rejoicing is indeed in order, it’s also important that we not indulge in THE WORD like it’s a smorgasbord… ‘eat’ the text we like and discard those that we don’t!
 
According to The Holy Writ, certain Promises are specifically-reserved for those who are walking daily in Christ with GOD!  “Can two walk together, except they be agreed?” (Amos 3:3) 

God recognizes those who have been called to Him by their willingness to submit to His Will and whosoever chooses to obey His Word, receive The Promises!

May I submit for your consideration that everybody that’s in the church building ain’t necessarily in Christ?  #OHNOSHEDIDN’T…OHYESSHEDID!

Some people can be religious (or as the Millennials say, SPIRITUAL) but not in an intimate relationship with The Lord Jesus Christ! Many may believe that the Bible is the Word of God, yet they don’t believe that it’s talking to them! Others may believe that God has power, however don’t essentially believe that God has the Power to change their lives!

Unfortunately, all of the blame is not on the people but must be shared by those in leadership in churches that have watered-down the Living Word in order to fill the pews, appease the congregation and appear more palatable to the world!  #ijs…Seriously?

I know, with so many opinions being perpetuated into our spirits from various medias, it’s becoming increasingly difficult to sift thru the fake news in an effort to decipher Truth from the fictitious, fabricated to manipulate the unsuspecting for personal gain! Hence, it behooves the true seekers to let every man be a liar and GOD BE THE TRUTH!

Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. 2 Timothy 2:15

Seasons change, opinions change, customs change, methods change BUT God’s Message will never change!

The Bible, aka The Eternal Word of God, plainly declares and decrees — If the foundations be destroyed, what can the righteous do?

While the New Millennium church is reaching forward and pressing on to get wherever we’re going, please don’t lose Jesus!  Remember, it doesn’t matter how high we go in this life, we’ll never get above GOD. #Didjaheardat?

For He knows them that are His!  JUS KEEP’N IT 100!

SELAH Daily Devotions!

“Your kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, And Your dominion endures throughout all generations. The Lord upholds all who fall, And raises up all who are bowed down.” Psalm 145:13-14

Granted there is a certain degree of comforting consolation from King David’s lamenting songs, “For his anger endureth but a moment; in his favour is life: weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning.” (Psalm 30:5),  unfortunately,  I dare say, there are some times when these words shriek hallow leaving our battle-wearied hearts to sigh “OH WHAT A NIGHT!”

Even though all the circumstantial evidence blaring in our faces might cause us to question internally; “God where are you? Don’t you see? Do you not understand; do you care?” , as born-again-baptised-believers, we must learn to walk by faith–not sight and certainly not our fickle feelings!  The whole point of having our Salvation Benefits Package is that despite of what it looks like in the natural, we yet have a HOPE that’s beyond this world. OUR GOD LIVES! OUR GOD Sees! OUR GOD Knows! OUR GOD Cares! #didjaheardat?

My Precious saints, it ‘s TRUE! Nevertheless, God does allow tests and trials to come into our lives. Not to tempt us to turn from HIM, but to train us to trust HIM! The Ol’ skool Mothers used to say “if you never had a problem, how would you know GOD COULD solve them?” While I’m totally convinced that The Sovereign God could’ve gotten HIS Purpose fulfilled without allowing me to go thru some of those desperate Baca places, the operative word is “thru”! In other words, this thing didn’t come to stay–it too shall pass!

All of our problems have a pre-designated expiration date—BUT GOD DOESN’T! THE I AM IS ETERNAL!

“For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.” Romans 8:18

While you’re meandering through your wilderness, pick up a few stones; as a personal memento when you get on the other side of it! Not just to remind yourself of what GOD can do; but to empower your witness to that sojourner you meet on their way in to where you’ve come out!

“HOLD TO GOD’S UNCHANGING HANDS! HE REIGNS FOREVER!”

“But in the last days it shall come to pass, that the mountain of the house of theLord shall be established in the top of the mountains, and it shall be exalted above the hills; and people shall flow unto it. And many nations shall come, and say, Come, and let us go up to the mountain of the Lord, and to the house of the God of Jacob; and he will teach us of his ways, and we will walk in his paths: for the law shall go forth of Zion, and the word of the Lord from Jerusalem. And he shall judge among many people, and rebuke strong nations afar off; and they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruninghooks: nation shall not lift up a sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any more. But they shall sit every man under his vine and under his fig tree; and none shall make them afraid: for the mouth of the Lord of hosts hath spoken it. For all people will walk every one in the name of his god, and we will walk in the name of the Lord our God for ever and ever.” Micah 4:1-4

Sometimes, looking at the world around us, it’s quite possible to believe that there’s no one living for God? While there is much evidence to support this, especially among those who religiously attend church services on Sunday mornings, but yet apparently feel as though church has no relevant life-altering significance that testifies to God’s Reality in their Monday-Saturday lifestyle. Unfortunately, God’s Word adamantly firmly disagrees with this 21st Century Pop Culture Theology.

Looking back throughout history, we find that this type of thinking didn’t just crop-up in the last centuries, but can be traced back throughout the scriptures, “In those day there was no king in Israel: every man did that which was right in his own eyes.” Judges 21:25.

Obviously, it’s innately human to resist any outside source or supreme authority that restricts us from doing anything that pleases the desires of our selfish-sin-lusting flesh. Given the diversity of religious belief systems accessible to us today, it’s not difficult to find somebody (for the right price) preaching exactly what suits your particular fancy and soothes your conscience from unrequited burden of sin’s shame and guilt, regardless of how it contradicts The Holy Bible.

“For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.” 2 Timothy 4:3-4

While living life so haphazardly may seem to have it’s own conveniences and advantages, it’s only temporary and ultimately will be proven absolutely foolish. Belief it or not, any attempt to deny God’s existence is imminently disastrous!

The Bible warns repeatedly of this idolatry! Yet, there is a strange propensity towards self-deception, that convinces so many ‘if there is a God, then how could he punish the very same creation that He claims to have such intense love for?’

That’s simple, because He is Holy and Just! Therefore, to withhold punishment for all unrighteousness would be totally against His Righteous Character! Nevertheless, God takes no pleasure in dispensing His Wrath upon His Beloved that’s why He sends His Word to warn us of the dire consequences of consistently living in rebellion against His teachings.

“For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” Romans 6:23

To trust in ones own opinions, expectations and assumptions of what God requires, only leads us into deeper depths of depravity and immorality that drives us further away from from The Redeeming Grace of Our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. (Ref. Proverbs 3:5-7)

However, by trusting solely upon The Faithful Witness, we embrace The Love, Hope, Peace, Joy and Favor of The Holy Father’s Presence not just in the land of the living, but eternally in the world to come!
