LEAVE THE REST 2 JESUS!

“Let us labour therefore to enter into that rest, lest any man fall after the same example of unbelief” (Heb. 4:11)

There is a certain ‘place’ that every human, believer or unbeliever, inevitably seeks to inhabit. However, you can’t locate in on Map Quest, Google or GPS. Amazingly, given all of the sophisticated technological advancement of our 2lst Century, it can’t be seen by telescope, satellite or heard by electronic ultra sonic sound systems. You can’t travel there walking, driving or riding in a bus, train, plane, rocket, cruise liner, submarine or battle ship!

Nevertheless, many a lifetime is spent meandering through days and nights pursuing it! Unfortunately, few ever get there. Some get closer than others, yet they’re left disappointed. For reasons unbeknownst to them, before they’re able to get a firm grasp, some way and some how, ‘it’ escapes to just beyond reach. Many have sought for it at the pinnacle of corporate, academia or entertainment world. Only to ascertain that despite the success, accolades, notoriety, wealth and privileges of the elite, there yet remains this insatiable unfulfilled inner-quest!

Where is this place that continues to evade so many a desperately wandering soul?

In case you haven’t figured it out, it’s called ‘REST’! And the reason so many fail to reach it, is because it is not a place but a person; and His Name is JESUS!

According to these Scriptures: “And to whom sware he that they should not enter into his rest, but to them that believed not?” (Heb. 3:18)

“Seeing therefore it remaineth that some must enter therein, and they to whom it was first preached entered not in because of unbelief” (Heb. 4:6)

Apparently, that which is impossible to man is always possible to God! (Ref. Matthew 19:26)

Didjaheardat? Amazingly, the very moment anyone places their ABSOLUTE trust in The Saving Grace of The Lord Jesus Christ, they have finally arrived, safe and sound, at their Destination—REST!

So do what you can. Pray about anything; trust God for everything and LEAVE THE REST TO JESUS! #GOTIT?? Aaawwwwmmmaaaazzzzzin!

I am straight Holiness/Pentecostal todabone; jus ask anybody who knows me in church! I mean, I’ll shout you down in a heartbeat! But guess what? The devil ain’t stud’n you getting your praise on shoutin’ and dancin’, flip’n over pews, in the church house, as long as you don’t change! That’s right, I’m talking about repentance! Don’t touch dat button!

I know repentance still carries a negative connotation, generally provoking feelings of fear and condemnation. I totally get! However, what we need to realize is that none of us have the power or responsibility to make a person repent by threatening them that they’re going to Hell! BUT!!!! IF you let them know how good The Lord is and what He’s ALREADY done for US to make us right with God, there a good chance that they’ll want to know Him for themselves!

Before the days of name it and claim it, and blab it and grab it, when a true prophet spoke, the only thing he promised was the WORD OF GOD! Really, check your Bible? John the Baptist preached the same message every day, “prepare ye the way, repent and be baptized, for the Lord is at hand”. When The Apostle Peter left the upper room, filled with the Holy Ghost, he came preaching the same message, “repent”. Yall ain’t liking me, huh?

Some folk still believe repentance means going to the altar, echoing a confession and shaking the pastor’s hand. But my beloved, genuine repentance is a matter of the heart and I don’t mean just feeling sorry. If you really want to experience authentic fellowship with Jesus, you have to sanctify yourself through repenting from your heart.

2 Corinthians 7:10 explains, when a person truly repents, they’ll admit that they’re sincerely sorry for rebelling against God and living a sinful life; make a conscious commitment to change the way they live, turn their back AWAY FROM the devil, and TURN 2 JESUS!

One of the best parts of repentance is taking back the personal power that we’ve allowed Satan to rule over our lives! Godly sorrow will make you stare the devil down and tell him in no uncertain terms, “No thank you, I don’t want to live like this anymore, it’s over! I DON’T BELONG 2 U, I BELONG TO JESUS! MY PAST IS COVERED IN THE BLOOD AND MY NEW LIFE IS NONE OF YOUR BUSINESS! NOW , GET OUTTA MY FACE OR I’M GONNA CALL MY DADDY!

Beloved, don’t allow another moment of doubt, unbelief or fear cause you to forfeit the blessings that God has prepared for us. (Ref. Jeremiah 29:11) The Bible says, the day you hear His Voice calling–just come! Didjaheardat? Can you hear HIM now?

Somebody quick, please tell the devil, “ I CHANGED MY MIND!”

“Many are the afflictions of the righteous; but the Lord delliverth him out of them all. Psalm 34:19

The Bible doesn’t lie to us! Neither does it sugarcoat the challenges facing our spirit to overcome a myriad of human experiences! The Scriptures reveal numerous accounts where God’s people found themselves in dire straits and having no other recourse, but to cry out to The Lord their God!

It’s been suggested that David penned today’s scripture text, reminiscing back to a time where, once again, he found himself having to flee from King Saul’s armies, being surrounded by his enemies, and narrowly escaping with his life. And here again, David testifies of God’s miraculous deliverance. (Ref. 1 Samuel 21:10-15)

We see The Apostle Paul declaring in 2 Timothy 3:12…’Yes, and all who desire to live godly in Christ Jesus will suffer persecution,’ echoing David’s sentiment as he encourages his young protégée, Timothy, to expect afflictions and persecution as you walk with Jesus Christ.

The Bible never tells us that after we make the decision to live holy as unto The Lord, that we can just relax on a flowery bed of ease. Quite the opposite! Your very life becomes a reproof to those who do not live a Godly lifestyle and testifies against the Godlessness in others.

Afflictions, denotes suffering, pain and trouble that lasts for a loooong time. And many of us can raise both our hands and kick up our heels to attest to that fact ; YES! We have been enduring afflictions, persecution, pain and trouble for what seems a long time. Nevertheless, I come to remind the saints of God that we do have a remedy for every single one of life’s maladies.

Psalm 34:17 says …“The righteous cry, and the Lord heareth, and delivereth them out of all their troubles.”

As believers, we’ve been instructed to walk by faith, not feelings or fear! It’s during these night seasons when you can’t see God’s Hand, when you truly learn to trust His Heart and His Plan! No matter what you may be experiencing now, whether its physical, mental, financial or spiritual affliction, my precious sista, brother we can all rest assured because our God is always just one prayer away!

Your Adversary, Satan, feeds on your fear and works over-time to convince you that what’s now will be forever. BUT! As usual, the devil is a liar and he ain’t running nuffin! In fact, God knows exactly where you are and before He allowed you to enter into this season of testings and trails, HE HAS PREDETERMINED THE EXACT MOMENT OF YOUR DELIVERANCE! #didjaheardat? Oh Yeah! AIN’T NOBODY GOD BUT GOD!

You must never allow intimidating circumstances to lure you away from Abba’s Love! Commit yourself to The Sovereignty of The Lord Almighty. Afterall, He’s The One Who says when enough is enough!

PRECIOUS ONE, BECAUSE GOD HAS COMMITTED HIMSELF TO FAITHFULLY DELIVER HIS CHILDREN, WHO CAN PREVENT HIM? #juskeepinit100–flatout!

4 GOD’S SAKE!

“Therefore say unto the house of Israel, thus saith the Lord God; I do not this for your sakes, O house of Israel, but for mine holy name’s sake, which ye have profaned among the heathen, whither ye went. And I will sanctify my great name, which was profaned among the heathen, which ye have profaned in the midst of them; and the heathen shall know that I am the Lord, saith the Lord God, when I shall be sanctified in you before their eyes.” Ezekiel 36:22-23

‘FOR GOD’S SAKE!’ How many times have you heard that? Most often it’s an expression used in an effort to persuade someone of your sincerity or swearing to a certain commitment! Backndaday (as my grandchildren say), there was an old saying, ‘A man’s word, is his bond’. In other words, yea was yea and nay was nay! Wonder why you don’t hear that much anymore? Today, instead of shaking hands, you’d better have a legal contract documenting the terms of agreement! And even then, you might need some deep pockets to carry you through your opponent’s legal appeals! Right?

Can you imagine how God felt, having hand-picked a people, wholly committing GODSELF and swearing by HIS NAME to love and care for them, unlike no other nation in the earth in the history of mankind, promising to give them their own land eternally, only to have His Chosen, reject and abandon Him; giving themselves over to polluted ‘no-god’ worship? Well that’s exactly what The Israelites did!

The ungrateful obstinacy of God’s Elect, provoked God’s Holy Anger to the point that He uprooted the entire nation scattering them to alien countries. Yet, not even their despicable unfaithful adulterous actions could separate them from The Faithfulness of God’s Love!

Having been exiled to foreign nations, the Israelites suffered unbelievable humiliation from people, whom by God’s own definition, were ‘worst than my people’! Wherever they were forced to go, God’s people were sentenced to shameful ridicule! But even more devastating, God’s Name and Holy Reputation was being defiled throughout every country they landed. God’s desire to raise up a holy nation, a royal priesthood showcasing His Wondrous Glory and Amazing Grace causing those other nations, yet under the bondage of sin, to forsake their evil ways and run to God for Salvation, was being thwarted due to the ungodliness of His Own People!

The Master decreed, ‘enough is enough’ and determined by His Own counsel to deliver His People! Despite their proven unworthiness, God pulled them out of their self-made stinky situation once again bringing them back to the land promised to their ancestors, blessed them to the extent that the surrounding nations stood gasping, amazed at the sight of such bountiful outpouring of God’s Favor! WOW! That’s what you call MERCY, huh?

However, God made it explicitly clear that He wasn’t doing this to make a name for the people, or even because the people deserved it, but rather, because HIS NAME was on the line! GOD’S NAME, represents GOD’S WORD!

That’s the core of our personal salvation, my precious saints! When we dare to step out by faith, not allowing our own unworthiness to reject God’s Mercy, but gratefully accepting God’s Loving Kindness towards us, trusting solely upon the sacredness of God’s reputation and God’s Word, whosoever can have whatsoever God decrees! FOR GOD’S SAKE!

TRUE GRIT…GRACE UNDER FIRE!

And He said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee; For my strength is made perfect in weakness. 2 Corinthians 12:9

If you’re going to BE a boni-fied Christian, and live not just ‘a good life’ but a ‘GOD life’ it’s mandatory that you become a willing participant in Jesus’ life-long apprenticeship program! And the only possible way that you’re going to achieve this lofty goal is by the continuous whoppin’ endowment of heavenly power called GRACE!

I realize, however, that some 21st Century New-Age-Faux-Theologians have diminished the amassment of Grace down to that short poem recited before gobbling down their hearty meal. While, the more refined others have encapsulated Grace as God’s unmerited favor. In other words, “much more mercy than we deserve and much less punishment than is required!” And to this, we joyfully agree! But we’d be remiss if we did not consider that other often neglected, under acknowledged and under- appreciated tense of Grace. Grace is Power to do what you’d never be able to do except for God, The Omnipotent Father, pouring out HIS Supernatural Power over our natural!

Admittedly, many 21st Century Saints don’t think they need nobody to teach or help us to live holy, right? But for the remnant of us who have tried to do life for themselves or by themselves and failed time and time again, we understand that all of us need THE MASTER’s GRACE!

While God has ‘GRACED’ each of us with individual talents and giftings that we bring, not just to the church but to impact the world around us, the challenge becomes remaining humble and not getting arrogant when God is able to get a hold of enough of our flesh to get His Will done in the earth! (Ref. James 4: 6)

As our scripture text recounts, the great Apostle Paul having accomplished many things worthy of accolades before and after His Damascus Road experience, (Ref. Acts 9) finds himself struggling with his flesh. After seeking God’s deliverance three times , only to hear God say, “NO! But I’ll give you the power to get it done even in your weakness!” Can u imagine that?

God has an unlimited supply of Grace checks yet to be deposited into our life accounts. Nevertheless, being the Chief Stewart of every Good and Perfect Gift, He has Sovereignly set the parameters for interspersing! The requirement is a humble obedience rooted in the clear understanding that without His Grace we are nothing and outside of His Mercy we deserve nothing! (Ref. John 15:5)

Saints, can you even imagine what would happen in the world, if God’s representatives ever, really relying on HIM for everything, came together? IT WOULD BE REVOLUTIONARY!

HENCE, IF GOD DOESN’T MOVE IT, HE GIVES U THE GRACE TO GO THRU IT! WOW!!! #didjagetit?

THE LONGING!

That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death. Philippians 3:10

One of the most intriguing topical discussions amongst expectant mothers and women who have become mothers (besides swapping labor stories) is the abnormally-intensified cravings that we experience during pregnancy awaiting the birth of their bundle of joy!

While, at this writing, my eldest is 47 years old, yet, I can still summon up that daily occurrence of overwhelming intensity, provoking me to walk my big-belly-self five city blocks up to MLK Avenue to get my hands around a 6 in., lettuce and tomatoes, fried onions, mayo and mustard, salt and pepper, heavily-loaded with pickles steak and cheese sandwich. This became such a ritual that the moment I wobbled through the threshold of the deli, the cashier would holla to the cook “Steak and Cheese Special for the big lady”. And off I’d be to our little apartment on Oakwood Street, five blocks back, just as happy as if I’d discovered a treasure chest filled with diamonds and gold. Somehow, the journey back never seemed as difficult or as long, perhaps because I’d be that much closer to relishing the second I’d take my first bite of my bounty! Oh my, what we won’t do for love, huh?

Well guess what? That’s exactly how believers ought to be in our quest for Jesus Christ! We see this truth evidenced in the life of The Apostle Paul. We can almost feel the earnest urgency with which The Apostle sought after his personal, intimate- knowing and understanding of “The True One” Who had apprehended him on the Damascus Road. (Ref. Acts 9) It was as if Paul was driven by an uncommonly unique passionate desire that set him on a course that remains unchartered territory to even the most astutely-religious 21st Century church-goers today.

Yet, there is that remnant of us whose yearning for more JESUS consumes most of our waking moments and often invading our nights with dreams and images of His Awesomeness. Imagine my surprise at the realization that not everyone in the church shares this delight-filled insatiable lusting for The Living Water and The Bread of Life!

This could very well explain why some who profess Christ, are content with following Him a far off while others are compelled to dig-out the secret treasures hidden in The Word of God, diligently, intentionally searching the Scriptures daily that they might know HIM in ways that may never be actualized by the second-handed-casually-acquainted follower—experientially! (Ref. Acts 17:11)

The Word of God is Alive and gives life to any who have a desire for The God Who Speaks revealing GOD-SELF through His Auto-Biography, inscribed through Genesis into Revelation, that all who seek Him with all of their hearts, minds, spirit, soul and body may know HIM (TRUTH) intimately. Sadly, not everyone who calls Him Savior seek Him as Lord, huh? #ijs Yall!

Therefore, much to their own sorrow, they miss out on the true wealth and reward of a personal, dynamic, GOD-involved relationship that awaits us who lend our hearts and attention to discovering The Father in the face of His First-Begotten Son, Jesus! (Ref. Colossians 1:15-16)

My precious one, seeking God, although often challenging, should never become be a chore! However, it is vindictive of the level of love, faith and commitment towards Him!

“O taste and see that the Lord is good: blessed is the man that trusteth in him.” (Psalm 34:8)

HENCE, WHATEVER POSITION GOD OCCUPIES IN YOUR HEART DETERMINES HIS PRESENCE IN YOUR LIFE! HOW BAD DO YOU WANT HIM? LONGING?

“I had fainted, unless I had believed to see the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living. Wait on the LORD: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the LORD.” Psalm 27:13-14

“Cast your burden on the Lord, And He shall sustain you;He shall never permit the righteous to be moved.” Isaiah 55:22

Glancing up at the TV screen on my way into the kitchen one morning, I couldn’t help but hear this early morning’s breaking news report that sometime, while most of us slept in the comfort and safety of our homes, a group of bomb-strapped terrorist had stormed into a Pakistani school house killing over 120 people, including a number of 1st to 6th grade students, teachers and anyone else who crossed their sight lines. As I tuned my ears, the commentator continuing on said that Isis had proudly stepped up, acclaiming responsibility for this heinous act in retaliation for a previous attack against their forces.

After reminding myself again,why I’m not an avid news watcher, I came up stairs to ask my husband whether or not he’d heard about it, and he had. Almost simultaneously, both of us asked “What is this world coming to”? ” It’s as if nothing is sacred, nothing is restricted by basic human morality!

Suddenly, the Holy Spirit cut into our conversation; “The End!” I repeated, as if the light had just been cut on. “The End!” The world, as we’ve known, is coming to an end, live and living HD color! Who nu? The 21st century generation would be eye witnesses to the actualization of the antiquated prophetic utterances of God’s servants.

I found myself praying, “Lord, as Pastors, preachers, teachers, evangelists, your servants, what are we supposed to do? How can we continue to preach trust and hope to comfort and encourage your people surroundied by the presence of lawless gross darkness? Especially when we ourselves are fainting, wearied, overwhelmed and being choked by the cords of cares and chaos!”

The Holy Spirit interrupted my self-induced saga; “Tell them about JESUS! After all He is The Only Hope of the World! Preach, JESUS! The Eternal Light that yet shines out of the darkness. Remind them that all these things must be before The Kingdom of God ushers in The New Life! Hail to the scattered sheep that NOW is the time for Salvation! Warn them that time is winding up, spiraling intently towards eternity and NOW is the time to prepare to meet their Master in peace; for He could show up at any minute!”

“Encourage your fellow-sojourners to take full advantage of these days, not trembling in fearful foreboding but celebrating God all day,every day!”

My mind went back to the wisdom of those ol’ skool Churrch Mothers? ‘Wear this world like a loosing fitting overcoat, that you can drop-off at a moment’s notice!’ That was their way of reminding us that we are not home yet. We are still passing through this barren land on our way to Heaven!

Beloved, if all your hope is wrapped up in what you can collect, seeking man’s approval and striving to attain society’s standard of success, then my precious one, the best you can expect to see in this world is constant decadence of morality and amplified misery. But asThe Redeemed, we have an resounding advantage over those who are yet in darkness. GOD IS STILL GOD!

God is not surprised at anything that’s happening! He Reigns Supreme Ruler over His Creation, astutely aware and actively involved in the intrinsic detailed affairs of man-kind! And to top it all off, God loves us with an Everlasting Love that compassionately invites us to come boldly before His Throne daily to find Hope, Help, Mercy and Grace!

Therefore, Beloved, we do not give up HOPE! We contend for the faith, waiting patiently in earnest expectation, resting in quiet confidence and believing to see that THE ONE WHO HAS PROMISED IS FAITHFUL TO PERFORM! WEIGHT ON THE LORD!

If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed. John 8:36

SMH!!!! Coming into another dimension of Revelation of the ‘almost too good to be true’ Gospel of Jesus Christ, my only appropriate response is shaking my head in wonder-filled absolute amazement! I’m not a novice to this thing we call ‘Salvation’, by no means. I’ve been saved for more than thirty years! Yet, I’m almost embarrassed to admit it; nevertheless, for most of my walk with Christ, I’ve struggled secretly imprisoned by guilt and shame for sins I have committed. And I’m not just talking about those B.C. (before Christ). I’m talking about the since I’ve been saved stuff too!

Just in case someone else out there knows what I’m talking about, I feel an urging in my spirit, compelling me to put myself out on blast just to let you know that there’s Hope for you also, and it’s “IN” Christ Jesus!

Now, don’t get it twisted! I’m not trying to push the blame off on somebody else. I’m just acknowledging that for whatever reason I adapted a sense of ‘performance-based-legalism’ that followed me right into Christianity! Do good, get good—do bad, get bad! This kind of thinking just about seals the deal—you’re doomed for failure and defeat, desolation and destruction because there’s no wiggle-room for our innately flawed human characteristics. You lie because you are a liar, you steal because you are a thief; you sin because you were born a sinner!

The Devil’s had a very long time to master deception and manipulation. Frankly, he’s become quite proficient in using us against us! He cloaks his best handiwork in fostering our ‘self-righteousness, self-degradation and ultimate self-rejection’! Yall know how he just loves to throw a rock and hide his hand. Unfortunately there’s little need to change his tactics, after all, it still works!

Truth be told, on our ‘bestest’ days, we still aren’t good enough to somehow deserve God’s Grace! That’s what’s so Great about Salvation! Even if we could, by accident, done some ‘right’ act it never would’ve equaled out all of the ‘wrong’ acts we’ve committed.

That’s why God sent Jesus!

God knew the first plan was not and never could work—because ‘they just don’t have it in them’! In Hebrews 10:18 Jesus said it something like this…this new covenant will not be written on tablets of stone, but ‘I’m writing it in their hearts and in their minds’! Father, prepare me A Body… I, The Righteous One, will come to live in them and will empower them to become righteous and do right things the right way!

OMG, SMH…AGAIN! Didjaheardat?

It ain’t about ‘you’ it’s all about ‘JESUS’!!!

Hence, why keep trying to earn something that God’s already given you for free? Just accept Jesus’ unmerited Love and Loyalty by living your life to the fullest every day in HIM!

That’s what it means to be ‘BORN AGAIN’ …saved and set free! IT’S SUCH A BLESSING…NO MORE CHAINS HOLDING ME!

When we place our personal confident trust not in ‘self’ –not in what we can’t do—but IN WHAT JESUS CHRIST HAS ALREADY DONE, WE’RE FREE—TO DO AND BE EVERYTHING HE WANTS US TO BE! —IN DEED–LIVE FREE!

“It is he that sitteth upon the circle of the earth, and the inhabitants thereof are as grasshoppers; that stretcheth out the heavens as a curtain, and spreadeth them out as a tent to dwell in.” Isaiah 40:22

Several years ago, I heard a story which, much like a good wine fermented by test, agitated by maturity and textured by time yet still manages to profoundly impact my responses to life’s often tempestuous cyclonic events!

Once upon a day, just moments after take-off, an emergency call was made from an obviously distressed co-pilot to the Control Tower, informing them of an unusually awkward situation that threatened the safety of the lives of the full passenger payload and crew members of this 255,000 lb. Boeing 757. The urgent message to the Air Traffic Control Center went something like this, “Uh, somebody? We have a problem up here! We’ve discovered that there are all kinds of snakes in the cockpit!”

When the person on the other end of the line, heard this message and recognizing the terror in the co-pilots voice, panicked and ran out the Tower. Immediately, a recently retired Senior Air Traffic Controller, who just happened to be there visiting his former co-workers, stepped up to the Control Panel, picking up the headset (that was so abruptly discarded to the side by the young man) speaking calmly into the mic told the Co-Pilot, “Young man, this is Officer James Marshall, to whom am I speaking?” The voice on the other end answered, somewhat frantically, “Uh, Sir, my name is DeVaughn”. “Good afternoon, DeVaughn. Now, let’s see how we can get you back on track and get these folk to their destinations.” Still trembling and somewhat confused at this ol’ man’s obvious inability to fully comprehend the gravity of the circumstances, the confused co-pilot reluctantly agreed, “Yes Sir”.

“Now”, the retired ATC continued, “The first thing I want you to do is to take the breaks off of the aircraft and begin to climb higher!” “What?”, retorted the co-pilot, “What did you say?” At this point, totally convinced and exasperated by the guy on the other end’s lack of discernment for the potential threat that the aircraft and its passengers were facing, again inquired, “Could you repeat that, sir!”

Once again, the Senior repeated, “Take the breaks off and climb higher!”

What the young man didn’t know, was that this was not the ol man’s first encounter with this kind of traumatic experiences and since he’d been this way before, he knew how to respond to an otherwise catastrophic event. Once the aircraft reaches a certain level of elevation, snakes cannot survive the air pressure and will quickly die!

Saints, today, God told me to tell you that situation confronting you now, those snakes that are taunting and threatening to delay the safe arrival at your next destination and all the evidence stacked against you to convince you to abort the mission all together, can’t survive the atmospheric conditions that you’re about to enter into!

“I the Lord have called thee in righteousness, and will hold thine hand, and will keep thee, and give thee for a covenant of the people, for a light of the Gentiles”

Isaiah 42:5-6

Beloved, take the breaks off of God! He’s been this way before you! TRUST HIM AND CLIMB HIGHER!
