HIDE AND SEEK!

HIDE & SEEK

SELAH Daily Devotions!

For the eyes of the Lord run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to shew himself strong in the behalf of them whose heart is perfect toward him. 2 Chronicles 16:9(a)

Like most children, my grandchildren loved to play the game ‘Hide and Seek’! I mean they would really get ALL N2 it! LOL! They just knew that they’d found the perfect hiding place, each and every time! Most of the time, you could find them in their favorite spot. I mean there’re only so many hiding places in one house! But they’d get so excited as I’d go around the house calling out their names. Sometimes they couldn’t resist the urge to peek out at me as I’d pass by their spot just to make sure that they’d gotten over on me. I’d laugh when I saw their little bottoms sticking out from behind the chair that covered their heads!

There’s a whole lot of grown folk still playing Hide and Seek! Somehow they’ve conditioned themselves to suppose that if I can’t see Him, He can’t see me! Evidently, they forgot to check The Book. Ps. 139:12 says,’Yea, the darkness hideth not from thee; but the night shineth as the day: the darkness and the light are both alike to thee.’ Didjaheardat? Wow! Day and Night are the same to Him?

Strangely enough, just like my grandbabies, the devil tricks some of us into thinking that we’ve successfully covered up our mess. But God has 20/20 vision, there’s no where to run and no where to hide from His Presence! God is enthroned above the circle of the earth; keeping its inhabitants under constant surveillance!! (Ref. Isaiah 40:22) This wonderful reality brings comfort to the true believer, at the same time striking enormous fear in the hearts of the heathen! Aren’t you glad that God always knows exactly where you are at any time? Sounds like, everybody needs to know who Jesus really is, huh?

Truthfully, we’ve all starred in our own cliffhanger episode, right? Remember when it seems like all hell is breaking loose, and your soul’s suffering in the solace of your tears because there’s no one to help put the pieces back together. After trying everything you could think of and the trauma of emptiness hurts so deep; yet, still have no idea how to fill the space; you finally discover that the One who promises to be a very present help in the times of struggle is there all the time; just a prayer away!

BELOVED, TRUST2KNO, GOD HEARS; GOD REMEMBERS, GOD SEES & GOD KNOWS!

When we come to the end of ourselves, we will recognize that it’s the seekers who receive the greatest blessings!

Gottcha!  Game Over! Come out from whatever you’ve been hiding behind! Just give up and turn yourself over to Jesus today! Don’t forget, He’s watching and waiting for you to seek Him!

Precious one, just ask God 2 help you; Comfort, strengthen and protect you! REMEMBER, JESUS IS WILLING 2 SAVE U AND HE WILL ALWAYS CARRY YOU THROUGH!

Come out with your hands up & tell God, ‘NO MORE HIDE AND SEEK!’

UNDER THE INFLUENCE

UNDER THE INFLUENCE 2

SELAH Daily Devotions!

But without faith it is impossible to please him; for he that cometh to god must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.’ Hebrews 11:6

The other day I heard someone say something that I thought was quite profound, at least thought provoking. It was said that “we are swirling towards eternity at the speed of life!” History is being written every day. Memories are being made, every day. Lessons are being taught and learned, every day. Attitudes are being formed and developed, every day.

As I began to think about this, several questions flooded my mind. First, does God’s Presence influence your life? How has the Presence of God influenced your life? What impact has God’s Presence made in your circle of influence?

We love to sing the song, “Jesus you are the center of my joy, all that’s good and perfect comes from you; you’re the Heart of my contentment, Hope for all I do….” But when the music stops, how’s your walk?

The Bible does not merely ask us to have faith to believe that God does exist. But we must also believe that God is who He says He is, that God is with us and that God is for us. (Ref. Hebrew 11:6) Accordingly, if we desire to please The Lord we must walk out our lives under the influence of His Presence that we may exemplify our beliefs throughout the course of daily living.

Does your character reflect the Presence of God in your life? Does the influence of God’s Presence affect the choices that you make? Does your life style reflect the influence of God’s Presence?

We are living epistles (letters) and folk are reading our mail, every day! How is the Presence of God in you influencing your readers? Just a thought! #ijs (Ref. 2 Corinthians 3:1-3)

The Bible says, we are the salt of the earth. I believe that means that we ought to make someone who doesn’t know God, thirsty for a drink of The Living Waters. (Ref. Matthew 5:13-14) As Christians, our greatest desire should be to allow the influence of God’s Presence to be reflected on those around us so much so that it provokes them to envy  and thirst for The God that we worship and  ultimately seek to claim Him as their personal Savior and Lord!

KEEP IT MOVING! LIVE EACH DAY UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF GOD’S PRESENCE IN YOUR LIFE!

MEMORIES

SELAH Daily Devotions!

When He slew them, then they sought Him; and they returned and inquired early after God. And they remembered that God was their rock, and the high God their redeemer. Nevertheless they did flatter him with their mouth, and they lied unto him with their tongues. For their heart was not right with him, neither were they steadfast in His covenant. But He, being full of compassion, forgave their iniquity and destroyed them not; yeah, many a time turned He his anger away and did not stir up all His wrath. For He remembered that they were but flesh, a wind passeth away, and cometh not again. Psalm 78:34-39

A few years back, (but who’s counting, huh?) Barbara Strissand recorded a hit song entitled ‘Memories’. This song pricked the hearts of all of us! Hence, we all have memories of days gone by that lure us back to the way we were. For some of us, when certain ticker-tapes of past personal experiences cross our minds, immediately we smile.  Other flash-backs cause our hearts to flutter, skipping a beat or two, remembering when.  And then there are those special ones that yetstill prompt silent tears to crease our cheeks. Memories, huh?  Some are fading and some, we only wish we could forget.

Like all of us, I indeed cling to God’s promises to keep my mind focused, sharp and sound.  That being my faith stance, I must confess that—every now and then—I have to cash in  what my kids call, one of my ‘senior moments’ vouchers.  Now don’t look at me in that tone of voice. Can we be for real?  I believe we all suffer a bout of ‘Spiritual Alzheimer’s’—every now and then.

Today’s scripture text recalls how the Israelites’ sporadic attacks of ‘forgetfulness’ provoked God’s wrath as He carried them through the wilderness.  Now don’t be so hard on them.  Truth be told, any one of us, drapped in this fickle-frail-flesh-frame, are just as prone to spiritual amnesia when it comes to recounting the wondrous works of God.

Time and time again, God has proven Himself a Faithful Provider, A Way-Out- of -No-Way, our Rock-in-A-Weary-Land, A Shelter-in our-Storm, A Strong Protector, Committed Redeemer and Eternal Hope of our Salvation. Yet, in spite of our own memories of all that God has already done, when faced with new challenges, does our response reflect a confident trust in our Compassionate Merciful God of All Grace?  Or do we suddenly forget to remember that if He Did It Before, He’ll Do It Again?

Even when we forget, God always remembers!  Memories!

FOOLISHNESS?

FOOLISHNESS

SELAH Daily Devotions!

For Christ sent me not to baptize, but to preach the gospel; not with wisdom of words, lest the cross of Christ should be made of none effect. For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness, but unto us which are saved; it is the power of God…for after that in the wisdom of God, the world by wisdom knew not God; it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe. 1Corinthians 1:17-18, 20

Granted, in this new millennium church age, some challenge the relevancy and even the validity of ‘The preaching of the Cross’!  After all, we have so much going on, so much information available to us, so much to accomplish and so little time!

Well, guess what? Contrary to contemporary pop culture, God knew before we knew how long and how far mankind would go to avoid accountability!

According to 2 Timothy 4:3, ‘For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but having itching ears, they shall heap to themselves teachers in accordance with their own lusts.

In other words, the focus would no longer be how to live a holy and sanctified life, in this present world, but folk would religiously come to church to scratch an itch, you know, to satisfy their hunger for more and some more of the WORLD’S creature comforts.  Of course they’d use a more palatable vernacular, such as, “Give me a ‘word’ that will tell me how I can supersize my life!” Or perhaps, “I’ll give you a part of my ‘free day’ if you can make it worth my while; you know, cheer me up, make me feel good (bring on the hype)! “A’int nobody got time for foolishness!” And we’d certainly be remiss to ignore this one—“You can’t judge me, God knows My Heart!”

I know we shouldn’t be shocked—but C’mon! This attitude prevailing amongst the household of faith? Yeah, I mean, we’re not talking about ‘worldly sinners’ we’re talking–Church Folks!

But to those of us who yet believe in the testimony of Jesus Christ and the Gospel message of that ol’ rugged cross, the preaching of the cross is not foolishness, but it is the Power of God to save the sinner man who will dare to believe that The Word of God is True.

Frankly, it’s easy to understand exactly why the Deceitful Destroyer works so diligently to keep humanity from The Truth.  If we were in his position, we wouldn’t want this Good News on blast in mainstream media, either!  Obviously!!  The Bible says, if they only knew ‘They never would’ve crucified Christ’ in the first place. (1 Corinthians 2:8) Well guess what, devil… ‘You’re over 2000 years too late’!

To the weary wanderer, The Cross is the Place of Refuge! To the lost, The Cross is the Center of the Universe, where Eternity collided with Time and Mercy and Grace unashamedly kissed each other! To the unlovable faint of heart, The Cross is The Power and Love of God openly revealed and freely offered in exchange for our rebellion against God! To the spiritually bankrupt, The Cross the Place of Welcomed Surrender– where, you give Him your all, He Gives You His All!

To those who’re trapped in darkness, The Cross is where the Light of GOD’S Amazing Grace is still shining—beckoning us  before the day of gross darkness overtakes youCOME!

OH YEAH! THE FOOLISHNESS OF PREACHING! So who’s the real fool?

SINGLE VISION

SINGLE VISION

SELAH Daily Devotions!

The light of the body is the eye: if therefore thine eye be single, thy whole body shall be full of light. But if thine eye be evil, thy whole body shall be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in thee be darkness, how great is that darkness!
(Matthew 6:22-23)

Have you seen that optical illusion photo of Jesus where you’re instructed to stare at the four dots continuously for about a minute, then look away to the light and watch the darkness evaporate revealing The Face of Jesus?

DID YOU SEE HIM YET… still too dark, huh?

Belief it or not, that’s a challenge for most believers? I mean, seriously! How can we be expected to focus on The Light of the World, when we are constantly encompassed and distracted by such gross darkness? As with most of the things Our Heavenly Father expects of us, it’s not always easy, yet if we make a conscious effort to disciple ourselves, it is possible!

We must stick  to the Living Word of Truth; not just on crisis days, but every day; as if our very lives depended upon it. And it does! Beloved, remember we’re strangers sojourning through this life on our way to a Glorious Family Reunion. (Ref. John 17:16) Jesus prayed to The Father that He would keep us in this world until He’s sent again to fully restore us to The Kingdom. Knowing fully well that we’d be hated by His enemies, just like He was while he walked this earth; Jesus asked The Father to put HIS Light in us to ensure that His followers would never be without His Presence. (Ref. John 17:15; Matthew 5:14)

The Apostle John wrote, “But if we are living in the light, as God is in the light, then we have fellowship with each other, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, cleanses us from all sin. “ (1 John 1:7)

Remember, thou weary one, you are God’s Chosen! Despite the random patches of darkness, we are never abandoned. Jesus guaranteed that there will always be just enough light to guide us through these momentary afflictions! (Ref. Hebrew 13:5)

DON’T TRIP! STAY FOCUSED ON THE SON LIGHT! THAT’S RIGHT…SINGLE-VISION!

ABBA’S HOUSE

ABBA'S HOUSE 2

“For no other foundation can anyone lay than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ” 1 Corinthians 3:11

“Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you? If any man defile the temple of God, him shall God destroy; for the temple of God is holy, which temple ye are.” 1 Corinthians 3:16-17

Have you ever heard a freshly born-again believer lamenting “if I’d only known how great Salvation was, I would’ve given my life to Christ a long time ago”? While this sentiment may shriek volumes of the tremendous gratitude with which every one of us who share this awesome privilege of becoming a part of The Kingdom of God, it might be more aptly acknowledged that as difficult or challenging our life B.C. (before Christ), there’s absolutely nothing within the scope of the un-regenerated man’s spirit that inspires him to seek God on his own! In fact quite the opposite is true. Since the down fall of our original parents, in the Garden of Eden, we’ve been known to invent unparalleled manner of deviant ways of escapism to avoid submitting to God’s Plan for our lives.

Nevertheless, according to The Holy Bible, God’s Love would not be denied! Before the foundation of the world, the entire plan of Salvation was initiated in the Mind of God and through the ministry of Holy Spirit that prompts us to draw nigh to the Heart of a Loving Creator and the Atoning Death, Burial and Resurrection of Jesus Christ! Thanks be to GOD,  GOD’s Grace is made available to all who will welcome Him into their hearts and lives.

“For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God” Ephesians 2:8

The Heavenly Father’s determination to build Himself a Sacred House, a Holy Temple, where He would dwell forever!  Sparing no expense, from the very foundation to the Chief Corner Stone, GOD continues day by day, lying new bricks! The Heavenly Father, takes particular care in adding luxuriously custom-built gold, silver and wood furnishings accentuated by exquisitely handcrafted sapphire, purple and scarlet colored silks and linen cloth tapestries, most befitting of The King of Kings and Lord of Glory, one soul at a time. Hence, while Salvation is free, it certainly wasn’t cheap!

To the absolute amazement of the world’s most renown high-class well-paid fashion experts, most of the pieces in God’s House were presumed castaways, throw-backs, out-dated, worthless and totally unsuitable for such Majestic Display! But The Master Architect/ Designer’s keenness, seeing the potential hidden treasures in the dirt covered cavernous lives of those created in His Image, digs down into the desolate places of our sin-clad spirits, picks us up out of the muck and the mire of our dark desperate pits, power washes us with the Flood of His Cleansing Blood redeems, refinishes, restoring us back into our rightful relationship as sons and daughters of The Most High God of All Creation where we now sit in Heavenly Places as Joint Heirs with The First-Born of Creation. (Ref. Ephesians 2:6)

Who knew? Certainly not the devil, or else he never would’ve crucified The Lord in the first place. (Ref. 1 Corinthians 2:8)

BUT GOD DID! CHRIST IN YOU…THE HOPE OF GLORY! WELCOME HOME TO ABBA’S HOUSE!

DENY THE POWER?

The Earth Slowly Burns - Americas

Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away. 2 Timothy 3:5

Never! Is probably the initial response of most professing-salvation-sanctified-sainted-souls, even at the mere suggestion that we’d be included in ‘those’. Right? BUT!  Have we ever considered the remote possibility, if you will, the collateral damage of being so pre-occupied with ‘getting’ that we lose sight of what God has already ‘given’?

Remember that Ol’ skool churrch song, “Count your blessing! Name them one by one! Count your blessing, see what God has done!”? Think about it? The Israelites were taught to sing songs that rehearsed their history as a daily reminder of God’s loving care, strength and power as He delivered them out of Egyptian slavery, lead them through the wilderness into The Promised Land! A practice, no doubt even in this bustling 21st Century culture, one might find tremendously buffering amidst the new norm of environmental chaos, anxiety and stress.

Just imagine the possible ramifications of a daily allotment of time designated specifically to reflecting upon all the many blessings that The Lord has already so mercifully and graciously heaped upon us. WOW! What inevitablemind-blowing heart-filled  sense of Gratitude, huh?

Could this be what The Apostle Paul was alluding to “according to the power that worketh in us”? (Ref. Ephesians 3:20)

Could a grateful heart pave the way for that “Greater than” we could ask or imagine? Could our pre-disposed poverty-mindedness and perverted sense of unworthiness, steeped in false humility be denying God the opportunity to show-off in our lives? Could we be guilty of having a form of godliness? GOD FORBID!

HOW GRATEFUL IS YOUR HEART? IS THAT HOW GREAT YOUR GOD IS? DENYING THE POWER? NEVER, huh? #juswondering…

I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well. Psalm 139:14

One of the greatest discoveries in my life, is the emancipation from the bondage of being every “thing” and every “one” that everybody else expected me to be! Honestly, it was only after I got a personal revelation of my Creator that I was able to recognize and embrace WHO I am!

We live in a society where sameness is the rule and different is generally unacceptable. Not judging, jus an observation, k? We spend millions upon millions of cash, attempting to duplicate and imitate somebody else. If you can afford it, there’s somebody out there who can snip, slap it, fill it, tuck it, stretch it, shrink, sew it to look any way you want it. And as products of this amazing 21st Century Information Age, all worldly wisdom is simply a click away making ignorance a choice, rather an than inevitable malfunction.

Nevertheless, apparently, somewhere down the line, as children, we’re given subliminal messages that suggest we don’t quite measure up, as if Barbie is the epitome of beauty, Donald Trump is the litmus test for success and prosperity, Michael Jordon is the ultimate goal for the athletically inclined and Michael Jackson was World Renown Mr. Entertainment! And let’s not even mention the inked-up rock/rap artists that so many of our children admire and try to be like.

I remember a conversation with some ladies at the gym a while ago,  both of which were fair-skinned Black women. One of them looked at the other one and said, “You need to get some sun!” to which the other responded, “You ain’t that much darker than I am yourself.” I noticed a elderly Caucasian lady, glancing back at them and it hit me, why can’t we just be satisfied with what and who GOD made us.

Perhaps, it’s because, we don’t really know what GOD sees when He looks at us! GOD sees the most precious of all creation; a Masterpiece fashioned in His Image; His very own Handiwork; a Designer’s Original uniquely crafted, intentionally purposed, distinctively wonder-filled creature all for the Praise of HIS GLORY!

And as far as those personal peculiar idiosyncrasies, GOD’s already set your next appointment to come in and rub a little more of GODSELF off in you.

“Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ:” (Ref. Philippians 1:6)

“Blessed is the man whose strength is in thee; in whose heart are theWays of them. Who passing through the valley of Baca make it a well; the rain also filleth the pools. They go from strength to strength, every one of them in Zion appeareth before God.” (Psalm 84:1-7)

James Cleveland penned the verses, “nobody told me that the road would be easy, but I don’t believe He brought me this far to leave me”! But can I add my personal P.S? Nobody told me that total surrendering of my life to the Lordship of Jesus Christ would just be the beginning of the process either!

Who knew?

Okay, John 15:2-3, does suggest that God has Divinely orchestrated and ordained precisely detailed terrains of testing’s and trials in order to produce Christlike character and strength in those whom He has chosen to be in intimate, personal relationship with.

And yes! The Psalmist does note that the road leading up to The Temple at Jerusalem required the sojourner to pass through the Valley of Baca, (a valley of weeping). Wait a minute, is this some sort of a clue that likewise, the Believer’s pathway to Glory, is often snagged by unforeseen uncertainties and all manner of deliberate satanically-induced abuses to entice you to give up and turn back?

I’m told that the experienced worshipers would make preparation for the drought seasons by digging pits to store up rainwater. And sure enough, their confidence would be rewarded as God opened up the windows of heaven to fill their earthen vessels. Not only would there be sufficient refreshment to meet their needs, but there would an abundance to help out others they might meet as they traveled along the way.

Granted, The King’s Highway is not always the quickest or easiest way, but we’re never alone! The Good Shepherd is always before us opening up The Way.  Our Messiah promised; He’ll faithfully meet every one of our needs – even if it’s one at a time! We go from one level of Grace to Grace, Joy to Joy, Prayer to Prayer, Word to Word, Anointing to Anointing and Glory to Glory!

My fellow Sojourner, take courage! While weeping may endure for a night, Joy is coming in the morning. It might still be dark, but don’t stop now. Keep leaning, keep trusting, trekking on in The Lord! Troubles don’t last, but God does!

Remember, the valley is not our destination, it’s a right of passage thru? The goal is just at the end of the road! Rest assured, while it may be lonely, the road ultimately crosses path with someone who’s needs to know what you have already come through.

Go ahead; jus take another drink! TRUST2KNO, He’s a WELL OF WATER 2 UR THIRSTY SOUL!

WHATZ YOUR SIGN?

WHATZ UR SIGN

SELAH Daily Devotions!

When was the last time you heard a message preached on good ol’ fashioned forgiveness? With so many of the saints seeking the gifts of God, it kinda makes you wonder, ‘what happened to the Fruit of the Spirit of God?’ Don’t shout me down, yall! Jus thinking, k?

Well I got slammed this morning with one word. Forgiveness! So…perhaps somebody reading this (besides me) may be experiencing some situation that is screaming ‘YOU NEED TO FORGIVE and get on with life!’ I know, I know! We really hate when we’re challenged by The Holy Spirit to do something that goes completely against our core, especially when we honestly believe we have every right to hold on to unforgiveness. After all you were the one victimized by their actions, right? And besides that it’s the only thing that you have left to memorialize the pain, suffering and affliction that they did to you, Amen?

BUT! You’re a Christian now!

You’re the person who confessed your faith in The Saving Grace of The Lord Jesus Christ. Weren’t you the one who stood in the sanctuary that Sunday morning, with you hands lifted in the air and your heart filled with joy, sannging louder than anybody else, “TO BE LIKE JESUS, TO BE LIKE JESUS…OH HOW I LONG TO BE LIKE HIM!” ? Oh yeah, you’re the one! Well?

According to The Holy Scripture, you’re no longer of this world! You’re a citizen of a different Kingdom, bound by different rules and regulations that generally totally contradict the standards of ethics and morality of the world from which you have been delivered! BUT! What’s a child of God to do?

“Put on therefore as the elect of god, holy and beloved, bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekneess, longsuffering. Forbearing one another and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any, even as christ forgave you, so also do ye.” Colossians 3:12-13

Yep, yep, yep! I feel ya, baby! Sometimes, spiritual maturity requires serious open heart surgery at the Hand of Holy Spirit! That’s what the Bible calls, circumcision of the heart! The Sword of the Spirit skillfully cuts away the callous scars that have formed to protect the soft spots left by the cruel experiences of our lives!

Forgiving comes from the Greek root word “charizomon” which means grace, bestowing favor, unconditionally. Showing or treating the offending party graciously. Oooh my! Didjaheardat?

You need Bible on it, okay! “Therefore if thine enemy hunger, feed him, if he thirst, give him drink, for in so doing thou shall heap coals of fire on his head. Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good.” Romans 12:20-21

When the saints of God show love by doing good, it brings the offender to shame, remorse, repentance and ultimately changes their attitude towards us! As a bonified Christian, you must resist the impulse to retaliate and make a faith decision to promote your sanctification and regeneration! In other words, show off the new man and glorify God by doing good to those who do evil to us. Hence, exhibiting your life of transformation before a watching world. (Ref. 2 Corinthians 3:2)

Beloved, don’t you remember how you used to know Christians before the days of bumper stickers and pens? WHAT’S YOUR SIGN? FORGIVENESS!
