BUT, GOD!

BUT GOD!

SELAH Daily Devotions!

“Now it came to pass on a certain day, that he went into a ship with his disciples: and he said unto them, Let us go over unto the other side of the lake. And they launched forth. But as they sailed he fell asleep: and there came down a storm of wind on the lake; and they were filled with water, and were in jeopardy.  And they came to him, and awoke him, saying, Master, Master, we perish. Then he arose, and rebuked the wind and the raging of the water: and they ceased, and there was a calm. And he said unto them, Where is your faith? And they being afraid wondered, saying one to another, What manner of man is this! for he commandeth even the winds and water, and they obey him.” Luke 8:22-25

Oh, I know you’re saved, sanctified, filled with the Precious Gift of Holy Ghost and do speak in tongues as The Spirit gives utterance! BUT! Since you’ve been saved, have you ever felt like saying to God, “Lord, I know You say it’s an honor to be recommended by God to the devil, BUT…here lately, it seems that I’m the only one you’ve been pointing out. If You don’t mind, next time, could you please recommend somebody else!”

Have you ever considered telling God, “Jesus, the next time you decide to pull down the hedge around me and giving Satan a shot at me, I’d appreciate at least a heads-up!” No? Jus wondering!

Unless you just landed on Planet Earth early this morning or were born late last night, you already know that storms are a natural occurrence on the sea of life, whether you’re saved or unsaved! In fact The Holy Bible tells us “Man that is born of a woman is of few days and full of trouble.” Job 14:1 Hence, as long as there is breath in your body, you will experience some measure of adversity and affliction, temptation and trial, distress and disappointment and choas and calamity.

Today’s text shares a story of an average day in the lives of Jesus’ disciples and their response to an unexpected storm that popped-up out of no where. Sounds a bit too uncomfortably familiar, huh?

As the text opens, Jesus having finished teaching classes, traveling from town to town and village to village, decided to take some ‘down-time’ and go across the lake to the other side to escape the crowds that normally followed him. He told His disciples, “Let’s go to the other side” and went to catch a nap. The disciples also seemed to be enjoying the calm atmosphere as the boat sailed on the smooth waters. Until, suddenly a terrible windy storm arose causing turbulent waves to come pouring into their small vessel, threatening to capside at any minute, killing everyone on the boat. Someone thought to wake up Jesus and cried out, “Master, Master, can’t you see we’re about to drown?” As if The Omniscient One had vacated the premises!

The Scripture goes on to say that Jesus, standing up, spoke to the wind and the waves, “Silence, Peace Be Still!” to which they had no other recourse BUT to obey The Master Creator! Turning to His disciples, Jesus sorrowfully inquired, “Why can’t you trust me?”

My Precious Sistas and Brothers, perhaps Jesus is posing that same question to you today. I know it’s been rough out there. I know you have a mindset to follow Jesus all the way, to love Him with all of your heart, soul and body, yet still storms keep hitting your life on the left and the right. But Beloved, Jesus won’t jump ship like some other people might. Jesus has promised to stay with you all the way across the Lake of Life. No matter where you are today, Jesus is always with you.

There are some lessons that prove vital to your personal maturity and intimacy through understanding the attributes of the God Whom you serve you, that can only be learned in the midst of the storms!

Could this be why the astonished disciples inquired, “What kind of Man is this?”

So the next time that Ol’ Deceiving Tyrant comes slithering around, threatening to destroy your hope, joy and peace, jap-slap ’em with this, “I hear ya knocking…BUT! GOD!”

LOCK AND LOAD!

SELAH Daily Devotions!

For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh: For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds; Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ; And having in a readiness to revenge all disobedience, when your obedience is fulfilled. 2 Corinthians 10:3-6

As long as I can remember, our country has been involved in some type of warfare some place across this world. Whether it was an Executive Order Proclamation or a covert operation, there has never been a time, since The Garden of Eden, when a citizen of Earth could claim a state of World Peace. Sometimes, the motives for our nation’s involvement were clear and then there were those times when the intent was suspect! Wisdom teaches that the natural is often a replication of the spiritual!

You probably don’ really need to wait for a confirmation on CNN or MSNBC first to recognize this, however, let me state the obvious! Since you made a conscious commitment to seek God, you are now officially an enemy of the state! Hence, you have become the target of every demon commissioned by The Kingdom of Darkness!

It’s irrelevant whether you’ve been saved 40 years or just made a decision early this morning, you now have an arch enemy who’s three fold mission is to steal, kill and destroy! Simply put, he’s determined to take you out, permanently! (Ref. John 10:10)

I’ve heard that during the Viet Nam war, the soldiers were often ambushed because it was difficult for them to identify who was friend and who was foe. Unfortunately, the same is true in the lives of many undiscerning believers. Sometimes, it appears as if  your supervisor, or that person who keeps bucking up against you at every turn, or that person who keeps getting up in your face is your enemy. But don’t be deceived. This warfare is not fleshy. It goes a lot deeper than that, this is spiritual!

The real culprit, your true adversary, is none other than the devil himself,  Satan, aka  Prince of Darkness, Lucifer, Beelzebub,  Belial,  Accuser, god of this world and prince of the power of the air! Although Satan tries to hide himself and confuse you, He’s still a Liar and the Father of Lies! In fact, one of his other names is The Master of Deceit.

You might think that he’s come to steal your joy, peace and destroy your relationships, finances or your health, and HE WILL! But, Beloved, this diabolical Ruler of Demons‘  hatred goes a lot further than harming you, his real purpose in razing enough hell in your life to contaminate your confidence, escalate your doubts and terminate your trust in our Heavenly Father, The True King of Creation!

Satan has had untold eon-aeons to study mankind and unfortunately he’s become quite proficient in tormenting and terrorizing God’s chosen people. The Bible warns that Satan comes immediately to steal the Word—if he can get the WORD before it gets rooted into your heart, most likely his mission will successful!

NOW DON’T GET IT TWISTED! Satan is a created being, therefore he can’t do anything except The Lord allows AND GOD already knows that no weapon that’s formed against us shall prosper! In other words, the devil might have a loud roar but he’s on a lease and ain’t running nothing! GOD SOVEREIGNLY REIGNS ETERNALLY OVER ALL, AND HE SHALL NEVER RELINQUISH HIS THRONE NOR HIS GLORY TO ANY THING NOR ONE!

TRUST2KNOW! God has made available to those who love and rely on Him, The Divine Weapon of Mass Destruction! Hence, The WORD OF GOD! Remember what happened when the devil came slithering into the desert where Jesus had been fasting and praying 40 days and 40 nights? EXACTLY! Jesus whipped that lying devil using THE WORD OF GOD!   (Ref. Luke 4:1-13) And guess what? He intends for us to do the same thing!

The Psalmist, King David told us how to do it. “Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee. “ Psalm 119:11 Didjaheardat?

If you’re gonna survive and thrive in these evil days, you’re gonna have to take a stand.! And the only sure foundation in this world, is THE WORD OF GOD! (Ref. Hebrews 4:12)

In case you hadn’t noticed, Satan is not moved by your threats nor your tears, however he has NO choice but to bow to the Implicit Authority of The Word!

That’s why Biblical Illiteracy is no longer feasible, under any circumstance! Your duty as a soldier in The Army of The Lord is to BE ready, armed and dangerous, packing The Word!

Therefore, your assignment, if you choose to accept this mission, is to get yourself in The Book and STAY THERE! #Didjaheardat?

“Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.” 2 Timothy 2:15

SEASONED SALT

SEASONED SALT

SELAH Daily Devotions!

“Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men. “ Matthew 5:13

WOW! Aren’t you glad that you’re saved, sanctified, living all you can to serve and please da Lord?

BUT! Before we go slappin’ 5 with our neighbors (or yourself) on the back, perhaps we need to take a closer look at today’s scripture text. Sometimes, WE—THE SAINTS—have a way of judging others by their actions BUT judging ourselves by our good intentions!

Whatchatalkinbout? It’s easy to make yourself come out smelling like a rose, as long as we’re comparing ourselves to one another! However, God never intended to make our own warped flesh the plumb-line for gauging His Righteousness!

Remember the story in the Bible of the Pharisee who went up to the Temple to pray, stood off by himself, looked across the room and seeing the tax collector, prayed “God, I thank you that I am not like other people—robbers, evildoers, adulterers—or even like this tax collector.” (Ref. Luke 18:9-14)

Have you ever noticed how God’s elect seem to develop a severe case of selective amnesia once they’ve been saved for any length of time! Perhaps that’s why The Apostle Paul left a not-so-friendly reminder to us. “And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God.” 1 Corinthians 6:11

Hence, “DON’T GET IT TWISTED…no matter how many right things you manage to do on a daily basis, at the end of your bestest day—every single one of us must acknowledge “that if it had not been for JESUS…where would I be.” (Ref. Romans 3:23) Truthfully, there ain’t none good but GOD!”

That’s why He sent Jesus! The Perfect role model for us to keep before us. Righteousness Personified! (Ref. John 3:16-17)

So the next time, you’re tempted to bask in your own self-righteousness, remember our frail-flawed-fickle human tendency to judge one another by outward appearances!  Precious one, check yourself ! And please recognize that God reads hearts! (Ref. 1 Samuel 16:7)

Jesus warned,  “For I say unto you, That except your righteousness shall exceed the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, you shall in no case enter into the kingdom of heaven.” Matthew 5:20
SO…BEFORE YOU START SENDING ANY POOR SOUL STRAIGHT TO HELL, BECAUSE THEY DON’T MEASURE UP TO YOUR STANDARDS, MIGHT I SUGGEST THAT WE MAKE SURE THAT OUR OWN SALT IS SEASONED WITH MERCY AND GRACE!

SELAH!

“Have a WONDER-FILLED day!”
